What’s new in Simply Accounting 2003?
Simply Accounting 2003TM
Simply Accounting 2003TM was released for retail sale during the month of December 2002. Yes, the product has been renamed, changing from the 8.5, 9.0 format of the earlier versions to follow the year type version sequence adopted by many software vendors of late. For those on SimplyCARETM maintenance program, the new version was shipped directly to you early in January 2003. An outline of the key new features for both Simply Accounting 2003 BasicTM and Simply Accounting 2003 ProTM follows.
Simply Accounting 2003TM Basic
Simply Webstore:
- Build a complete Web store and seamlessly integrate with your Simply Accounting data. Orders taken via the web will synchronize with Simply Accounting. This is a hosted service, and hosting fees will apply.
Cheque Log:
- A log will be kept for all cheques that have been printed and posted in Simply Accounting 2003. This information will be used for control purposes and will be available in a Cheque Log report in the Financials Report menu.
Comment per account line in the General Journal:
- The general journal now allows you to add a comment to each account in the journal. These comments will be printed on the journal entry report.
General Journal integrated with tax reports:
- Journal entries made in the general journal will track sales taxes for you and details will be included in the tax reports.
More user-definable payroll hourly rates:
- To increase the number of hourly rates available for payroll, you can now define the income categories as an hourly rate. You can also create differential rates. Differential hourly rates are used for shift premiums that are paid on top of the base (regular) number of hours worked.
Increased password security:
- Password security levels have been increased to allow you more flexibility when assigning access to the various parts of Simply Accounting 2003.
Sort General Ledger report by date:
- The General Ledger report now includes an option to sort the report by date.
Edit sales tax amount in Sales Journal:
- You can now edit sales tax amounts to account for rounding differences between the tax calculations of Simply Accounting and the calculations made by your cash register(s).
New data fields for all journal entries:
- User definable fields are now available for every transaction. This feature allows you to track additional information such as dates or notes
Default Revenue Account for customers:
- You can set up a customer’s record with a default revenue account that automatically gets filled into sales invoices.
Show vacation pay owed and advance amounts in the Payroll Journal:
- When an employee has an outstanding balance for vacation pay and/or advances, the amount will be displayed in the payroll journal. With this feature, you can easily see the amounts of any outstanding balances.
Dropdown list with default dates in date fields:
- In response to client requests, fields that used dropdown lists in previous versions of Simply Accounting will now offer dropdown lists in addition to calendar button controls. This change gives you the option of picking dates from the dropdown list, using the calendar control or typing in the date.
Redo report options without having to close and reopen them:
- Report windows have a new toolbar button and matching menu item that bring up the report’s options dialog box, allowing you to change report options and regenerate the report. This feature makes it possible to change report options without having to close the report first.
Report options dialog boxes display when a report is sorted and/or filtered:
- In Simply Accounting 2003, the Sort and Filter buttons are now visible and checked whenever sort or filter criteria are set on a report. This change makes it easier for you to see when a report has been sorted or filtered.
Shortcut to calculator on toolbar in all journals:
- The toolbar for all journals now includes a button that invokes the Windows calculator.
Sort recurring entries:
- When you recall recurring entries, the list of entries can now be sorted by: Transaction, Frequency, Date Last Processed and Next Due Date.
“Save a copy”:
- In the File menu, you will be able to make a copy (or backup) of your database and then continue to work on the original database.
Generate reports in HTML
- You can now export reports in HTML format to allow for viewing over the Internet.
Simply Accounting 2003TM Pro
In addition to all the new features in the Basic version, the Pro versions also includes:
Departmental Accounting:
- An additional account segment has been added to General Ledger account numbers to provide support for departmental accounting. With this feature, you can quickly expand your selection of accounts to provide reporting by departments or divisions within your company.
Time & Billing integrated into Payroll Module
