New in Peachtree 2002 (Release 9.0.00)

*Denotes not applicable in Philippine setting

Enhanced 1099 Vendor Setup*

On the new 1099 Settings tab of the Vendor Defaults window, you can now establish how vendor 1099 calculations will be made for each of the general ledger accounts in your chart of accounts. You can choose whether 1099 payments made out of a given account

will be calculated for miscellaneous income-type contractors or for interest income-type contractors. You can also choose to have no 1099 calculations made for the given general ledger account. This allows you to write checks to vendors and have them either only effect one of 1099 accounts or not effect the 1099 calculation.

Peachtree recommends that you examine 1099 general ledger account settings before printing annual 1099 forms.

Enhanced Date Field Functionality

You can enter or select dates on virtually every major Peachtree window. Peachtree has added new functionality to the Date field in each of these areas.

When the calendar appears after pressing the Calendar button, you can now press the Page Up key to move back a month, and the Page Down key to move forward a month. To change the year, you press CTRL + Page Up to move back a year, and CTRL + Page Down keys to move forward a year. Change the day by pressing the + and – keys (this also works without opening the calendar).

Enhanced Receipts Window

Peachtree has added new functionality to its Receipts window.

The Receipt Number field allows you to record separate receipts that can be applied to a single bank deposit.

You can now choose whether or not to assign deposit ticket IDs automatically. On the Payment Methods tab of the Customer Defaults window, you can choose to have Peachtree assign deposit ticket IDs to customer payments either at the time a receipt is recorded in the Receipts window or at the time the receipt is selected for deposit and printed from the new  Select for Deposit window.

Improved Peachtree Tutorials

Peachtree now provides two types of online tutorials.

  • Guided Tour: This online tutorial guides you through basic transactions in Peachtree. It also provides overviews of new features in the current release.
  • Hands-On: Previously presented in the Getting Started Guide, this updated, lesson-based tutorial guides you through basic transactions in Peachtree using practice data from our sample company. This is a great way to learn about features of Peachtree without using your own data.

Note: The Peachtree Hands-On Tutorial requires that Adobe® Reader® software be installed on your computer, which is available on the Peachtree compact disc or at www.adobe.com.

Both tutorials can be accessed from Peachtree’s Help menu.

Improved Toolbar Buttons and New Toolbar Menus

Peachtree’s toolbar buttons have changed for some existing processes. Peachtree functionality has not changed, however some button captions and graphics were updated to make data entry and information access easier and more intuitive for you.

Below are notable changes to Peachtree toolbar buttons:

  • The Edit button is now called Open in all task windows and still functions the same as before. For a complete, updated procedure, click.
  • The Post button is now called Save in all task windows for both Real-Time and Batch posting methods.

When using Real-Time posting method, Save records and posts your journal transactions to the appropriate journals and general ledger instantly.

When using Batch posting method, Save records your journal transactions. They can be posted using the Task > System > Post process (same as before).

  • The Delete button in some task windows now provides an additional Void option.
  • The Print button in some task windows now provides additional Preview and (Print) Postage options.
  • The Help button in most task windows now includes a menu of additional Help options.

New Customer Receipt Forms

In Peachtree, you can now print and preview receipts from the Receipts window. You print receipts on preprinted forms that are designed to fit all receipt data into three sections. The receipt form is called MultiP 2 Stub Receipt. This form contains two stubs, the top one the merchants copy and the bottom one the customers copy.

New Customized Price Level Names

You can now customize sales price level names and disable/enable levels in Peachtree Accounting and First Accounting for up to five item price levels. Instead of “Price Level 1,” “Price Level 2,” and so on, you can set up your own sales-price-level names on the Price Levels tab of Inventory Item Defaults window.

For example, you can set up “Retail,” “10% Sale,” “20% Sale,” “Wholesale,” and “Employee Price” price-level names. You can do the same in Peachtree Complete, for up to ten price levels.

New Deposit Slip Forms

You can enter and print deposit tickets to submit to your company’s bank along with cash and bundled checks. Combined deposits streamline the bank statement reconciliation process in Peachtree’s Account Reconciliation window. On the Payment Methods tab of the Customer Defaults window, you can choose to have Peachtree assign deposit ticket IDs to customer payments either at the time a receipt is recorded in the Receipts  window or at the time the receipt is selected for deposit and printed from the Select for Deposit window.

New Drill-Down Detail in Receipts and Payments Windows

You can display and edit specific transaction detail in the Receipts or Payments windows on the Apply to Invoices tab. Double-clicking an invoice transaction listed in a receipt or payment displays the original transaction in its respective task window. This is called “drilling down.” You can modify the invoice (if allowed), save the transaction, and return to the original window with the invoice information updated.

New E-mail Address Field for Employees

Peachtree now provides fields that allow you to record e-mail addresses for your employees. To enter e-mail addresses, select the General tab of the Maintain Employees/Sales Reps window.

  • To send an e-mail message, click the E-mail button to the right of the E-mail field. Peachtree will automatically open your default e-mail application and create a new e-mail document addressed to the vendor or customer.

Note: You must have an e-mail program installed in Windows (for example Microsoft Outlook or Eudora) and an account set up with a Internet Service provider for this to work properly. Peachtree does not send the message itself.

New Fast-Add Customer Records from Task Windows

When you create a transaction in various task windows and enter a new customer record ID that does not exist currently in your Peachtree company database, Peachtree displays an Invalid ID message. You now can select the Fast Add button in the Invalid ID message to have Peachtree instantly create a new record for the ID and include most of the data entered for the transaction in that record. Later, you can go to the Maintain Customers/Prospects window and complete the information for this new record.

New Internal Notes for Purchase and Sales Invoices

Select the Note button in Quotes, Sales Orders (Peachtree Accounting and Peachtree Complete and above), Sales/Invoicing, Purchase Order (Peachtree Accounting and above), and Purchases task windows to enter or display comments about the transaction.

New Internet Postage Center and Stamps.com Integration

The Peachtree Internet Postage Service allows you to take control of your mailing and shipping needs. With just a computer, printer, and Internet connection, you’ll be printing your own postage in no time—24 hours a day, without ever going to the post office again. Peachtree has partnered with Stamps.com to offer this powerful, yet simple service. Once you sign up for the service, you can handle all of your shipping and mailing right from your office. Even better, you can print postage for your customer and vendor checks directly from within Peachtree.

 New Peachtree WebsiteTrader Service

Peachtree WebsiteTrader is a new extension of the Peachtree WebsiteCreator service. With Peachtree WebsiteTrader, you can add e-commerce functionality to your Peachtree-hosted Web site. You can upload a catalog of up to 1000 items from your Peachtree company (Peachtree WebsiteCreator only allows up to 25 items), create an electronic storefront with Buy Now buttons, add shopping cart functionality to your Web site, and easily download online customer sales orders to your Peachtree company on your desktop computer (possible only in Peachtree Accounting and Peachtree Complete)—all with a subscription to the Peachtree WebsiteTrader service!

New Print Purchase Descriptions on Disbursement Checks

In addition to the invoice number, date due, and invoice amount, you can now print a purchase item description on disbursement check stubs (whether entered on the Apply to Expenses tab or the Apply to Invoices tab of the Payments window.

To print item descriptions on your check stubs, you must use new A/P disbursement check form designs listed in Peachtree’s Select a Report window. These two new check designs are compatible with existing OCR Multipurpose A/P Check forms as described below:

  • OCR – MultiP AP 1 Stub Detail: Use with preprinted multipurpose 7-inch check forms with only one stub. Includes full item detail. Use Peachtree Form PAM60 for continuous paper. (OCReady)
  • OCR – MultiP AP 2 Stub Detail: Use with preprinted multipurpose check forms with two stubs (top and bottom). Includes full item detail. Use Peachtree Form PALM60 for laser paper. (OCReady)

 New Select for Deposit Window

You can now enter and print deposit tickets in the new Select for Deposit window that can be submitted to your company’s bank along with cash and bundled checks.

New Web Site Address and E-mail Fields for Company

Peachtree now provides fields that allow you to record your business Web site address (Internet URLs) and default e-mail address (such as sales@compay.com) in the Maintain Company Information window. Your company Web site address and default e-mail address can be added to printed form designs and reports, if desired. To learn how, click.

  • To access your business Web site quickly from within Peachtree, click the Internet button to the right of the Web Site field. This launches your default Web browser and locates the address.

Note: You must have a Web browser installed in Windows (for example Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape) and an account set up with a Internet Service provider for this to work properly.

New Year-End Wizard

Previously, the process of closing the payroll (calendar) tax year and closing the fiscal year were cumbersome separate tasks. Peachtree has combined and simplified these processes into the single intuitive Year-End wizard. This new wizard walks you through the process of closing out your first open fiscal year, payroll tax year, or both. At every point in the process, the wizard makes your options clear and tells you the consequences of every action you might take.

New to Peachtree Accounting and Peachtree Complete

New Generate E-mail Messages Based on Triggered Alert Conditions

This feature is available only in Peachtree Pro Accounting and higher.

Alert e-mail messages in Peachtree serve as communication tools for notifying users, employees, customers, vendors, or other interested parties (like an accountant) when certain activities or events occur. Alert e-mail messages (generated within the Action Items window) are especially helpful because you can include specific transaction information that needs to be addressed within the message text. For example, you may want to be alerted if the quantity of an inventory item drops below 100. By setting up Peachtree to generate alert e-mail messages, you save time and effort by sending an e-mail message simultaneously to the vendor for reorder and your inventory clerk for notification purposes.

To set up Peachtree to generate e-mail messages when alert conditions occur, click.

Note: In order to generate e-mail messages in Peachtree, you must have a MAPI-compliant, default e-mail application installed on your computer.

New Warning When Item Out of Stock While Entering Sales Orders

This feature is available only in Peachtree Pro Accounting and higher.

When you enter a sales order or convert a quote to a sales order, Peachtree checks the available inventory to fill the sales order. If the quantity on the sales order exceeds the quantity on hand, a warning is issued (only if the Warn if inventory item is out of stock box in the Maintain Global Options window is selected). This does not prevent you from selling the item, it just warns you that there is not enough of the item to complete the sales order.

New to Peachtree Complete

Enhanced Item Price Calculations

This feature is available only in Peachtree Complete Accounting and higher.

In Peachtree Complete Accounting, you can now set up calculations for each item price level in the Calculate Price Levels window. The calculations you set up act as templates or models and should contain commonly used pricing values. Creating price level calculations saves you time and effort. Instead of having to manually enter different sales prices, you can use a base price and a calculation to adjust the prices as needed.

For example, price level 1 can be retail base price. Price level two can be 10% off of price level 1. Price level 3 can be 20% off of price level 1. When you change price level one, price levels 2 and 3 also change.

Additional Item Price Levels

This feature is available only in Peachtree Complete Accounting and higher.

In Peachtree Complete, you can now set up ten sales price levels for each of your inventory items. In First Accounting and Peachtree Accounting, you can only set up five sale price levels.
